Beattie Feathers Many consider Beattie Feathers to rank among the greatest to ever grace the field at Tennessee. And rightfully so, considering the mark he left on the Vols' program. In 1933, Feathers sealed his place in Tennessee history, being named the Southeastern Conference Most Valuable Player. He earned All-America honors in 1933, capping his glorious backfield career on The Hill in which the Vols had two undefeated seasons and went 25-3-2 overall. Feathers enjoyed professional greatness, becoming the first NFL player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season, averaging a record 9.9 yards per carry. Feathers was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955.
