James Cregg

Asst. Coach / Offensive Line

James Cregg comes to Knoxville having spent his career coaching both sides of the line of scrimmage, experiences that are making a difference as he takes command of Tennessee's offensive line positions.

Cregg's most recent coaching responsibility was for the last two seasons as an offensive line assistant with the Oakland Raiders. He helped the 2007 Oakland squad under then-head coach Lane Kiffin finish sixth in the NFL in rushing and inside-the-20 touchdown percentage.

Before joining the Raiders, Cregg spent three seasons coaching the defensive line at Idaho. His final season of 2006 for the Vandals was under the tutelage of Dennis Erickson, now the head coach at Arizona State.

Cregg coached the defensive line at Colgate from 2000-03, where, in his final season, the Division I-AA squad advanced undefeated to the national championship game. The Raiders' title-game loss to Delaware ended a school-record 21-game winning streak stretching to the middle of the 2002 season.

Colgate finished in the top 10 nationally in rushing defense during Cregg's final two seasons with the Raiders. In 2003, Colgate also allowed only 16 passing touchdowns in 16 games played. During Cregg's four seasons at Colgate, the Raiders won Patriot League titles in 2002 and 2003, with the team's defense finishing first in the conference in total defense during both championship seasons.

Cregg played for and later served as a graduate assistant under Colorado State's Sonny Lubick. Cregg earned All-Western Athletic Conference honors as a senior offensive lineman for the Rams. He was a two-year starter on Colorado State's offensive line and played in two bowl games in the mid-1990s.

He then was named a graduate assistant at his alma mater from 1997-99.

The Norco, Calif., native was elected in 2001 to the Norco High School Hall of Fame.

Cregg and his wife, Dayna, who hails from Greely, Colo., have one daughter, McKenzie.
