Jan. 4, 2011
The 2011 schedule for the University of Tennessee football team announced today includes eight games at Neyland Stadium, beginning on Sept. 3 vs. Montana. Next season marks only the third time in Volunteers history that the team plays eight games in Neyland Stadium, with Tennessee also hosting eight in both the 1950 and 2009 seasons.
In addition to the season opener against Montana, the other seven home games in 2011 include non-conference contests against Cincinnati (Sept. 10), Buffalo (Oct. 1), and Middle Tennessee (Nov. 5). Tennessee's four home games against SEC opponents are against Georgia (Oct. 8), LSU (Oct. 15), South Carolina (Oct. 29), and Vanderbilt (Nov. 19).
The Vols play four road games next season, all against SEC opponents, with matchups at Florida (Sept. 17), Alabama (Oct. 22), Arkansas (Nov. 12), and Kentucky (Nov. 26).
Next season's schedule includes the first-ever games for Tennessee against both Montana and Buffalo. The Vols are 4-1 all-time vs. Cincinnati, with the last meeting taking place in Knoxville in 1992, a 40-0 Tennessee win. The Vols played Middle Tennessee on one other occasion, defeating the Blue Raiders in 2002 in Knoxville 26-3.
Next year's games against Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt are all part of the normal home-and-home rotation within the SEC Eastern Division, while the game at SEC Western Division opponent Alabama is also part of an annual home-and-home series. In terms of the other SEC West teams on the 2011 schedule, Tennessee is both hosting LSU and traveling to Arkansas for the first time since the 2006 season.
Information regarding game times and television broadcast information is typically released two weeks before each individual game. Additionally, information regarding season tickets will be released later in the spring.
