Davis, who called last week's Sugar Bowl, served as analyst at the 2007 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and the 2007 Tostitos BCS National Championship Game, played for Tennessee from 1983-86 as a four-year starter at safety. He served the last five years as lead analyst for TBS, before switching to FOX in December. He also currently works for the NFL Network and The Golf Channel and had other broadcasting assignments including sideline reporter for TNT's NBA playoffs and CBS' coverage of the NCAA basketball tournament.
Davis was recently named Best Newcomer in 2007 by SI.com's Richard Deitsch.
"Davis isn't a newcomer to television. He's been a quality college football analyst for TBS and Sun Sports over the years, but his work during the Bowl Championship Series -- especially for the Oklahoma-Boise State game -- gave him a national platform to strut his stuff," said Deitsch.
"Even though he was an accomplished broadcaster, I thought he was under the radar doing SEC for Turner," says Fox Sports president Ed Goren. "For people who saw him on the BCS on FOX last year, it was probably the first time they saw him."
