The University of Tennessee Athletics Department announced Monday that David Blackburn has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration and Football Operations.
"I feel that the hiring of David Blackburn is definitely one of the most significant hires we have made on our staff," head coach Lane Kiffin said. "In my few months with David, it's obvious he understands how to operate at a championship level. David has a great connection to the Tennessee Football Family, having worked for both Coach Majors and Coach Fulmer."
Blackburn previously served as associate athletics director for administration. In addition to his current administration role, Blackburn will take over duties for football operations. The vacant assistant athletics director for football operations position will be eliminated.
"As we continue to look for ways to increase efficiencies within the athletics department, this is a great opportunity for us to expand David's role while eliminating a vacant position on our staff," said Mike Hamilton, men's athletics director. "David has served as football operations director in the past and has worked closely with Coach Kiffin and his staff since their hiring. He has been a tremendous asset for me on the administration side and will become an even greater asset to UT Athletics in this increased role."
A Loudon native, Blackburn graduated from UT in 1989 after serving two years as head football student manager under head coach Johnny Majors. He joined UT Athletics in a full-time capacity in 1991 and has served in a number of roles, including five years as assistant athletics director for football administration under head coach Phillip Fulmer. His other positions include serving as assistant recruiting coordinator, administrative assistant for football, manager of recruiting compliance for all men's teams, and assistant athletics director for development.
