KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee women's basketball coach Holly Warlick was invited by Vols football coach Butch Jones to serve as an honorary staff member for the Dish Orange & White Game over the weekend.
With UT multimedia coordinator Dani Klupenger capturing the sights and sounds of Warlick's day, the second-year Lady Vol head coach and longtime UT football fan lived out the dreams of many on Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium. Standing on the sideline of Shields-Watkins Field and wearing a headset as a member of UT's staff, she joined the offensive unit, while UT swim coach Matt Kredich sided with the defense.
With a crowd of 68,548 looking on during a sun-drenched spring afternoon, Warlick and her colleagues on the White team enjoyed a 129-100 victory over the Orange. The triumph came with a tasty reward.
While the Lady Vol skipper has cut down nets and won trophies for an SEC regular season crown in 2013 and a tournament title in 2014, this win came with an edible symbol of success. Coach Jones had promised the game's winning team a steak dinner, while the losing squad was treated to hot dogs and beans.
Ah, the spoils of victory. It's a taste Warlick knows well, having won 56 games in her first two seasons at the helm of the Lady Vols and 1,005 total during her 33 years as a player, assistant, associate head coach and head coach at her beloved alma mater.
