Vols Jersey Countdown #98

May 25, 2012

Timber Tops
#98
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
John Henderson
Defensive Line (2000-01)

The only Vol All-American and All-SEC selection to have ever worn the number 98, "Big John" earned back-to-back All-American honors his junior and senior season by exploding off the defensive line. His junior year (2000), the year Tennessee set the school record for fewest rushing yards allowed with 817 - he won the Outland Trophy, was a Bronko Nagurski Award Trophy finalist and was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year. His 12 sacks ranked third on Tennessee's single-season list. He was also an Outland finalist and a Lombardi Award semifinalist in 2001 despite a lingering ankle injury. Henderson has gone on to play 10 seasons in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders after being the Jags' 2002 first-round selection. Henderson was a Pro Bowl selection in 2004 and 2006

WHY I WORE THE NUMBER
CORY STONE
Defensive Line (1991-94)
"When I first got to Tennessee, I was given No. 69, but that wasn't the number for me. So I went to (Equipment Manager Roger) Frazier and asked him for the closest number to Reggie White's number No. 92 as he really inspired me. So he gave me 98 and I rocked the 98. Of course, John Henderson took 98 to another level, but I like to think I started a treand."

WHY I WORE THE NUMBER
KARL KREMSER
Kicker (1967-68)
"I walked on at Tennessee in the Spring of 1967 and was successful in making the team. I was assigned 98 because i believe it was one of a few numbers that was not yet assigned.I came to appreciate that number since very few, if any, place kickers wore that number."
WHY I WORE THE NUMBER
Parys Haralson
Defensive Line (2003-05)
San Francisco 49ers (2006-present)
"I have been wearing #98 my whole life, I starting wearing it in high school and it has been with me since."
