Vols Jersey Countdown #83

June 9, 2013

Player Spotlight
Mark Adams
Tight End (1988-91)

The only Vols All-SEC selection ever to wear No. 83, Mark Adams was a four-year letterwinner for the Vols from 1988-1991. He earned All-SEC accolades as a senior in 1991 as he made a career-high 24 catches for 217 yards and scored a touchdown. In his career in orange & white, the Virginia Beach native had 52 catches for 573 yards and two TDs.

Why I Wore the Number
Zach Rogers
Wide Receiver (2009-12)
"Wes Welker wears 83 and he's a guy I've watched a lot of film on. He was undrafted but has worked hard to achieve his elite status. He's the guy I try to model my game after."
Why I Wore the Number
Jerry Gowdy
Left End (1960-63)
From Jerry Gowdy's Wife of 49 years, Josephine Gowdy: "Jerry Gowdy's number 83 was special to him because it was a reminder of how much Guts it took to play, and how little the Glory, but especially what wonderful memories he (we) had while at UT. His football grant-in-aid allowed him to finish college and lead a successful career. Recently, he had served as President of Charleston Vols Alumni in Charleston, South Carolina. He passed away April 14, 2011, but died like he lived, bravely and thankful for his many blessings."
