Vols Jersey Countdown #82

June 10, 2013

Player Spotlight
Ken DeLong
Tight End (1967-69)

The only Vol All-SEC selection to wear No. 82, Ken DeLong is part of the UT football family legacy of DeLongs. Ken was a brother of Steve and uncle of Keith, who combined for the Vols only father-son All-American combination. Ken was first-team UPI All-SEC pick in 1968 and 1969. Ken was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1970. He is the co-holder of the Vols record for TD catches by a tight end (9), with Austin Denney. Ken led the Vols in catches in 1968 with 34 for 393 yards. The Norfolk, Va., had 76 catches in his career with 844 yards. Ken caught the game-tying two-conversion from Bubba Wyche in the 1968 Georgia game that the Vols tied, 17-17. That season opener was the first-ever game played on Tartan Turf at Neyland Stadium.

Why I Wore the Number
Bobby Overholt
Left End (1957-58)
"I wore number 82 because I was proud to be a UT Vol! No special story of 82, only proud to wear the big orange jersey!"
