#VFL65 McClendon Living Out NFL Dream

June 27, 2014

With 65 days until it's football time in Tennessee, UTSports.com reporter Whitney Haworth catches up with former Tennessee Volunteer and current Jacksonville Jaguar, Jacques McClendon.

While there is no orange on his jersey and he plays on Sunday instead of Saturday, Jacques McClendon remembers his Tennessee playing days like they were yesterday.

An offensive lineman from Cleveland, Tenn., McClendon played for the Vols from 2006-2009.

Now, McClendon is preparing for second season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"Every day you just wake up and pinch yourself and see if you're going to wake up," McClendon said.

While McClendon has not been able to visit Rocky Top recently, he knows that the football program is truly rising to the top.

"You don't have to rebuild Tennessee. All you have to do is reach back in what has already been built," said McClendon.

In talking with other Volunteers, such as this year's NFL first-round draft pick, Ja'Wuan James, McClendon is excited to see what head coach Butch Jones has in store for his second season.

"I think we have the right guy leading us and I think he's going to be very successful, McClendon said. "We just have to be patient with him and let him intact his system and keep progressing."
