Vols Jersey Countdown #61

July 1, 2012

Timber Tops
#61
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Willis Tucker
Center (1939-40)

Willis Tucker was one of four Vols who passed away defending the United States in World War II. His No. 61 was one of four numbers retired in 2006 prior to the Air Force game. Tucker (May 10, 1918 -- Nov. 28, 1944), a graduate of Knoxville High School, earned a Vol football letter in 1940 and was a sprint star on the track team.

WHY I WORE THE NUMBER
Clifton Stewart
Offensive Line (1968)
"When I started with the Vols, I wore number 55 because I played back-up center my sophomore year. I wore number 61 when I was switched to offensive guard and tackle. I finally started as an offensive tackle my senior year in the 1968 season in number 61."
