Vols Jersey Countdown #51

July 11, 2012

Timber Tops
Reggie McKenzie
Linebacker (1982-84)

Knoxville native and Austin-East H.S. graduate Reggie McKenzie starred with the Vols in the early 1980s along with his twin brother Raleigh McKenzie. Reggie went on to play with the Los Angeles Radiers and started as a rookie in 1985. McKenzie has gone on to a successful career in the NFL frontoffice. He served with the Green Bay Packers from 1994-2001 as he eventually rose to director of player personnel. During his time in Green Bay, the Packers won Super Bowl titles in the 1996 and 2011 seasons. On Jan. 5, 2012, McKenzie was hired as the general manager of the Oakland Raiders.

Kevin Gregory
Long Snapper (1998-99)
"I was a walk on long snapper and was honored to wear ANY number the equipment managers assigned me. When they tossed me the #51 with my name on the back, words can't describe how quickly that number went from being meaningless, to meaning everything to me. I honored that number and those who had worn it before me by working hard, and earned a full scholarship my final two years. I wore that jersey number through 2 SEC championships and proudly wore it as I snapped during the national championship game in 1998. That number has gone on to mean so much to my family, as my son continues to sport his own #51 jersey in the stands today."
