Vols Jersey Countdown #42

July 20, 2013

Player Spotlight
Bob Suffridge
Guard (1938-40)

College Football Hall of Famer>Bob Suffridge is the Vols' only three-time All-American, earning the honors from 1938-40. UT collected a perfect 30-0 record during his career.

His sophomore year, the speedy Suffridge anchored a dominant line that paved the way to an 11-0 finish. The 1939 season saw Suffridge help lead Tennessee to another undefeated regular season, one in which the Vols' defense did not allow a single point.

Suffridge's blocking and tackling helped pave the way for a third consecutive undefeated regular season and a third consecutive SEC title his senior year.

Why I Wore the Number
Charles Meyer
Quarterback/Blocking Back (1949-51)
"I wore Number 42 because it was the number I wore at Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Always proud to be a Vol and member of the 1951 National Championship Team."
