Vols Jersey Countdown #1

Aug 30, 2013

Player Spotlight
Leonard Little
Defensive End/Linebacker (1995-97)

Splitting time at middle linebacker and defensive end, Leonard Little earned a reputation for his hard hits and quarterback sacks.

The only player to earn first team All-American honors while wearing number one for the Vols, Little did so during his senior year in 1997. The Asheville, N.C., native was also named the Associated Press' SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year after recording a team-leading 87 tackles and collecting 8.5 quarterback sacks while leading the Big Orange to the 1997 SEC championship.

Little finished his career ranked second to Reggie White on UT's all-time sack list with 28, which included 11 his sophomore year. Little had 10 multi-sack games in his three-year career and currently ranks third on the career list for quarterback pressures with 42.

Why I Wore the Number
Leonard Little
Defensive End/Linebacker (1995-97)
"My uncle passed away right before I graduated from junior college and that was his favorite number so I wore it in honor of him."

Why I Wore the Number
Jayson Swain
Wide Receiver (2003-06)
"I wanted number 1 because I knew it came with a big responsibility of being a playmaker and a game changer on the field. Great Vols like Jason Witten and Leonard Little were guys I knew about during my recruitment when I asked Coach Fulmer for that number. The fact that it was giving to me let me know that I was trusted to carry the torch of the great players who had worn that number before me. It was an honor! It's football time in Tennessee!"
