Food City Recognizes Classic Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- As football fans in East Tennessee prepare for a "new era" of college football this season, UT Athletics and corporate partner Food City have teamed up for a promotion to honor University of Tennessee's Classic Vol football players. In order to highlight the company's Legacy Brands along with their UT Athletics affiliation, Food City is unveiling a series of four limited edition posters, designed and produced exclusively for the Food City Classic Vols promotion. These posters feature some of the most popular UT football players from the `60s, `70s and `80s and debuted today at this season's first Food City Big Orange Pep Rally.

"Most of us grew up watching and listening to the Tennessee Vols of our era, while enjoying the classic brands, like Lay's, Kern's, Kay's and Terry's that have meant so much to East Tennessee and our entire region. What a perfect opportunity to tie the regional brands that Food City has brought back and our Tennessee Vols together for a great promotion honoring some of our stand-out athletes," said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The first poster in the series, featuring Johnnie Jones, a two-time first team all-SEC running back from `82-`84, unveiled today and is now available to the general public at all participating Food City stores.

"I'm thrilled and honored for the opportunity to be recognized as a `Classic Vol.' It's exciting to know that UT fans have not forgotten about players from my era," said Jones.

Fans can acquire each poster by simply purchasing five of Food City's designated Legacy Brand items in one transaction. After doing so, a voucher for the poster will be printed on their receipt and customers can pick up their poster at the Customer Service counter in the store. Each of the four posters will be available at participating Food City locations for a two-week period only, while supplies last. After each poster is retired, the next one in the series will launch. The final poster, debuting Oct. 13, will be available until Saturday, Oct. 26.
