Vols Announce Two Football Signees from Junior College Ranks

Dec. 16, 2009

The roster for El Camino College in Torrance, Calif., lists Kenbrell Thompkins wearing jersey No. 1 and Matt Simms sporting jersey No. 2. And in that order Tennessee announces the first two members of its 2010 football signing class.

Thompkins comes to UT as a wide receiver originally from Miami. He led El Camino this year with 69 receptions for 1,020 yards and nine touchdowns. Most of those passes came from Simms, who completed 159-of-269 passes for 2,204 yards and 17 touchdowns. Simms, from Franklin Lakes, N.J., is the son of former Super Bowl-champion quarterback Phil Simms and the younger brother of Chris Simms, who currently plays for the Denver Broncos.

Wednesday is the first day this year for junior college prospects to sign with four-year colleges. Spring drills begin for the Vols on March 2.
