The No. 19 Tennessee men's golf team is in second place after Monday's first day of the Arizona Invitational played at Arizona National Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. Second-round play was suspended because of darkness and will resume at 10 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday.
The Vols fired a 1-over-par 285 and were 1 under par as a team through 15 holes in the second round.
Pepperdine finished the day 2 under par, holding a two-stroke lead over the Vols at even par. Tulsa and San Diego State are tied for third at 4 over followed by Arizona at 8 over.
Chris Paisley is six strokes under par to lead the Vols. The senior is in second place, two strokes behind individual leader Zack Byrd of Coastal Carolina. He fired a 3-under-par 68 in the opening round and was 3 under through 15 holes in the second. Paisley shot par-or-better on 13 of 15 holes during his second round, including five birdies. His first round was highlighted by an eagle on No. 5.
Freshman Darren Renwick is next for UT at 4 under par. The freshman, playing in his fourth collegiate tournament, is in fourth place. Renwick got off to a rocky start in the first round with a bogey and double bogey in his first four holes. The England native got back on the right track with an eagle on his fifth hole and didn't look back, finishing the round at 1 under. Renwick was 3 under in the second round with three holes left to play.
Sophomore Cameron Lawrence is tied for 37th place after firing an opening round 73. The Brentwood native is currently 5 over par for the tournament and 3 over par in the second round with 4 holes left to play.
Junior David Holmes is one stroke behind Lawrence at 6 over par. He is tied for 44th place heading into the second day of competition. Holmes turned in a 4-over-par 75 in the first round and was improving on that score as he was only 2 over par through 14 holes in the second round.
Robin Wingardh rounded out the lineup for the Tennessee Vols. The sophomore fired a 3-over-par 74 in the first round, hitting two birdies and one eagle. He is currently 9 over par and tied for 64th. Wingardh was 6 over par with 4 holes left when play was suspended.
