Talkington with back-to-back rounds of 74.

Feb. 24, 2014

Ponte Vedra, Fla. -- For the second consecutive tournament, the Tennessee men's golf team has battled weather conditions and early darkness in the Sunshine State.

The Vols ended their second day at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational in 11th place. UT shot rounds of 300 and 293 for a total of 593 (+17).

Sunday's first round was suspended due to heavy rains on the Sawgrass Country Club course. Completion of the first round was attempted but play was pushed to Monday after darkness fell on the course. The 15-team field picked up first round play Monday morning at 8:20 a.m. (ET) and played until completion of the second round.

The stop and start play weighed heavy on the Big Orange. All six competitors are outside of the top-25 heading into Tuesday's final round.

Oliver Goss heads up the Tennessee starting five with a two day total of 146 (+2). Goss is tied for 27th place after posting a first round 75 followed by a second round 71. Through two rounds, Goss has connected on nine birdies.

Making only his second start in almost two years, senior Danny Keddie returned to his All-SEC Freshman form. The Englishman shot a 36-hole total of 148 (+4) including eight birdies.

"I've hit the ball great, but I just haven't taken full advantage of every situation," Keddie said. "I made a couple of silly mistakes that have cost me. Hopefully, the team can cut them out tomorrow and go low."

Senior Marshall Talkington also stepped up his game, shooting a 148 (+4). Other than a double and triple bogey, the native of Jackson, Tenn., has played outstanding golf. Talkington is competing for Tennessee as an individual.

"I've played really good, but I just let a few shots get away from me," Talkington said. "They ended up costing me a lot."

Rounding out the Volunteers' lineup, senior Brandon Rodgers and sophomore Chad Merzbacher are tied for 47th with a 150 (+6). Knoxville native Jack Smith finished with a two day total of 161 (+17).

On Tuesday, The Hayt tournament will conclude with Tennessee teeing off at 8:09 a.m. (ET).

The Hayt Recap:

The No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys have a three stroke lead over UCF heading into the final round. Meanwhile, UAB's Sam Love is holding off UCF's Greg Eason for the top individual spot.
