PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- Freshman Oliver Goss shot a 2-over par 74 to lead Tennessee in the second round of the John Hayt Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club.
Teams battled through tough weather conditions all day, which saw second round tee times get delayed. The conditions made playing golf a challenge with gusting winds, rain and thunderstorms.
"The first round I played really solid and it had the potential to be a really low round, but I missed a few opportunities and had a 2-shot penalty," Goss said. "The second round was really up and down for me and I had to scramble hard to make up for it. We had to battle all day with the weather, but I'm still in a solid position at the moment. I have got to step it up tomorrow and finish strong".
The Vols' team held tight to finish the day in a tie for 11th place after two rounds of play. Tennessee carded a second round 10-over par 298 for a total score of 592 (+16).
North Florida's team continues to dominate the tournament with a team score of 17-under par. North Florida's senior Kevin Phelan holds a commanding lead in the individual tournament shooting a 13-under par through two rounds.
Tuesday's third and final round begins at 8:30 a.m. ET with the Vols teeing off at 8:30 a.m. ET. Tennessee will be paired with UAB and Jacksonville.
