Ray, Scalise Help Vols Move to 2nd at Kingsmill

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Redshirt freshman Nolan Ray climbed to fifth place and junior Lorenzo Scalise jumped 27 spots into a tie for ninth as the Tennessee men's golf team moved up to second place on Monday in the second round of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate at Kingsmill Resort.

Tennessee Team Scores

The Vols shot 4-over 280 on Monday and sit in second place at 10-over for the tournament. Penn State leads the 22-team field at 7-over. Louisville is in third place at 13-over.

Marshall's Clark Robinson holds the individual lead at 3-under. Penn State's Cole Miller and Ryan Dornes are tied for second place at 1-under.

Ray shot 1-over 71 in the second round to move to fifth place at 2-over. He tallied birdies on holes No. 3, No. 6, No. 7 and No. 15.

Scalise carded his fifth round in the 60s with a 1-under 69 on Monday to crack the top 10. He is tied for ninth at 4-over. Scalise had birdies on the fourth, 11th and 16th holes.

Freshman Jake Meenhorst shot 3-over 73 with birdies on the 14th and 16th and he now sits tied for 17th place at 5-over.

Freshman Rhys Nevin is also tied for 17th place at 5-over after he posted a 6-over 76 in the second round. Freshman Hunter Wolcott enjoyed an eight-stroke improvement with a 1-over 71 on Monday and is currently tied for 52nd at 10-over.

Freshman Brayden Garrison, who is competing as an individual, shot 8-over 78 and is tied for 68th at 13 over.

Tuesday's final round will have a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start. The Vols are grouped in foursomes with Penn State, Louisville and Eastern Kentucky. Ray and Meenhorst will start at the first tee, Nevin will being at the second and Scalise and Wolcott will open at the third tee. Garrison will tee off from the 17th.
