RALEIGH, N.C.-- Led by sophomore David Skinns' second-place finish, Tennessee recorded a fifth-place finish at the North Carolina State Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. The No. 25 Vols turned in a three-round scorecard of 284-285-286--855 at the Raleigh Country Club (par 71, 6,782 yards).
Skinns fired a 69-72-67--208 to finish runner-up to Chris Noel of Tulsa. Noel carded a 68-67-72--207. Skinns recorded four birdies on the day while claiming his third second-place finish of the season. Previous second-place finishes include the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions and the Seminole Intercollegiate. He also has six top 10 finishes on the season.
Senior co-captains Ian Parnaby and Andrew Pratt were next in the Vol scoring. Both finished tied for 26th. Parnaby recorded a 72-73-71--216, while Pratt had a 75-68-73--216. Ross McGowan finished two strokes back at 38th-t with a 68-72-78--218. John-Scott Rattan rounded out the Vol scoring with a 76-73-75--224 to finish tied for 60th.
Southern Methodist came from behind to claim the tournament championship, shooting a 287-277-279--843 to edge No. 11 North Carolina and Tulsas who finished four shots back (847). rounded out the top teams at three and four respectively.
Other top 25 teams that competed include third-ranked Wake Forest(852), No. 14 Minnesota finishing eighth with an 857 and No. 23 Duke finishing 14th with an 884.
Tennessee will next be in action from April 25-27 at the Southeastern Conference Championships. The tournament will once again be be played at The Seaside Course in Sea Island, Ga. In last year's tournament the Vols finished tied for sixth with a 296-285-300--881.
