Vols Stand at Second After Day One of SEC Championships

SEA ISLAND, Ga.--The Tennessee men's golf team is currently in second place after the first round of play at the 2003 SEC Championships. The 23rd-ranked Vols fired a 289 to trail No. 13 Georgia (288) by one stroke. The tournament is being played at The Seaside Course (par 70, 6,885 yards).

All five Tennessee golfers shot 75 or better on a day which saw play postponed for several hours due to rain. Senior co-captain Andrew Pratt and sophomores Ross McGowan and John-Scott Rattan are tied for 11th with scores of 72.

Sophomore David Skinns is one stroke back at 73, tying him for 17th. Rounding out the Volunteer scoring is senior co-captain Ian Parnaby, who is tied for 22nd with a 75.

Following the Bulldogs and Vols in the team standings are defending SEC Champion and 12th-ranked Auburn with a 291, No. 9 Florida with a 292 and Alabama with a 293.

Kevin Kisner of Georgia and Brett Stegmaier of Florida are tied for the individual lead, with scores of 67. Will Claxton of Auburn is in third with a 68, while David Denham of Georgia rounds out the top individuals in fourth place with a 69.
