Vols End Season With 13th Place Finish at NCAA East Regional

ROSWELL, Ga.-- The Tennessee men's golf team ended the 2001-02 season with a 13th-t place finish at the 2002 NCAA East Regional. The Vols ended the tournament with a three-day scorecard of 294-310-300--904 to tie them with the College of Charleston.

Junior Andrew Pratt led the way throughout the tournament for the Vols. Pratt ended the tournament with a 72-75-76--223 to tie him for 26th. Freshman David Skinns finished second in the Vol scoring with a 47th-t place finish. He had scores of 73-79-74 for a total of 226. Freshman Ross McGowan and senior Jimmy White both finished tied for 73rd with scores of 230, while senior Andrew Black finished tied for 87th with a 234. White and Black were playing in their final tournament for UT.

In team play, top-ranked Georgia Tech and No. 2 Clemson both tied for top honors. The Yellow Jackets had a scorecard of 291-287-298--876, while the Tigers had a 286-291-299--876. North Carolina (877), No. 19 Augusta State (885) and Virginia Commonwealth rounded out the top five teams.

In individual competition, D.J. Trahan of Clemson finished the tournament in first place. Trahan had scores of 69-70-71--210. Finishing second to Trahan was Bob Cherry of North Carolina, who finished with a 73-69-71--213. Tyler McKeever of Georgia Southern and Brandt Snedeker of Vanderbilt tied for third with scores of 214.

 

 

The top ten teams and top two individuals whose team was not in the top 10 will move on to the NCAA Championships, which will be played at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio from May 29-June 1.

Tennessee ends the season with an overall record of 124-52-1 (.703) and an SEC record of 36-23 (610).
