The Tennessee men's golf team shot a 310 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional played at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Fla., to stand in 23rd place with two rounds left.
Charlie Ford had the best score of the day for Tennessee finishing with a 4-over-par 76. Ford started off well birdieing two of his first five holes but a double-bogey on 18 and consecutive bogeys on holes 6 and 7 cost the UT sophomore.
Georgia native Ben Spickard rounded out the lineup for the Volunteers. Spickard shot a 5-over-par 77. Spickard rebounded well from a tough front-nine as he pared eight straight holes before bogeying his final hole of the day.
Junior Tino Weiss was one stroke behind Spickard with a 78. Weiss also finished the day well as he birdied his final hole and finished the back nine only one-over par.
Freshman Chris Paisley rounded out the Tennessee lineup with a 79. Paisley birdied hole No. 7 and like the rest of the Volunteers finished his day strong, shooting two-over par on the final nine.
Jonathan Mount withdrew during first round action.
The second round is scheduled to begin Friday at 7 a.m. Eastern time.
