The Tennessee men's golf team finished up play in the NCAA East Regional Saturday at the Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., ending with a final scorecard of 310-293-298--901 to finish in 18th place.
Sophomore Charlie Ford fired a 70 in the final round for the lowest score of the tournament by a Vol. Ford birdied the seventh hole and had the Vols' only eagle of the tournament when he three-shot a par-five on the 9th hole. Ford also birdied the 10th hole to stand at four-under par. Bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes brought Ford back to two-under par for the day. For the tournament, Ford shot a 76-75-70--221 to finish in a tie for 26th place.
Tino Weiss was next for the Vols with a scorecard of 78-71-75--224 to finish in a tie for 52nd place. Weiss birdied the third hole to get off to a fast start but bogeys haunted him all round. Birdies on consecutive holes brought him to one-over par but bogeys on the last two holes dropped him back to three-over par.
Chris Paisley shot a final round to 74 to finish with a scorecard of 79-72-74--225. Paisley had birdies on holes 2, 5 and 7 to stand at two-under par but could not get anymore birdies and eventually finished at two-over par.
Ben Spickard rounded out the Tennessee lineup with a score of 77-75-79--231 to finish in a tie for 95th place. Spickard through 15 holes was only two-over par but consecutive double-bogeys and a bogey on the 18th hole hurt the UT sophomore.
Wake Forest started the day in third place but fired a five-under par 283 in the final round to win the regional. Georgia finished one shot behind Wake Forest in second place after leading at the end of the first two rounds. Texas Tech finished in third eight strokes behind Georgia.
The top-10 teams all advance to the NCAA Championships to be held at the Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore., from May 31-June 3.
