The Tennessee men's golf team battled through rainy weather to fire a three-under-par 285 to take sole position of second place after the first round of the Shoal Creek Invitational. The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be completed Tuesday morning. The tournament is being played at the Shoal Creek Golf Club (par 72, 7,114 yards).
Jonathan Mount and Chris Paisley both shot a two-under-par 70 to lead the way for the Vols. Both players shot a 34 on the front nine and a 36 on the back nine. The UT duo is tied for fifth place overall in the tournament. Next for the Vols was Ben Spickard. Spickard shot an even-par 72 in the first round and is tied for 12th overall. Philip Pettit and Lloyd Campbell who tied for top honors at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions both have a little work to do to catch up with the leaders. Pettitt fired a one-over-par 73 to place in a tie for 22nd and Campbell shot a three-over-par 75 to finish in a tie for 41st.
LSU is the leader after one round with a four-under-par 284. Georgia State is in third-place at even-par. Tournament of Champions runner-up Alabama and Florida are tied for fourth at two-over-par.
Four players shot a three-under-par 69 in the first round to share the individual lead. UT golfers Mount and Paisley are only one-stroke behind the leaders.
