Birmingham, Ala. - The Tennessee men's golf team finished second at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate Tuesday, scoring a 285-285-294--864 to finish one stroke behind LSU. Sophomore Jonathan Mount finished tied with Rhys Davies of ETSU for top individual honors.
Mount carded a 70-69-71--210 to finish in a three-way tie for first place with Davies and Cole Isban of Notre Dame at six-under-par. After a four-hole playoff, Mount and Davies were still even and declared co-champions.
Ben Spickard shot a final round 69 to finish in a tie for tenth place overall with a three-round total of 72-75-69--216. Lloyd Campbell was next for the Volunteers with a 75-72-75-222. Campbell finished in a tie for 32nd place.
Phillip Pettitt finished in a tie for 38th place with a scorecard of 73-71-79--223. Paisley rounded out the Volunteer lineup with a 70-73-82--225 to finish in a tie for 46th place.
LSU, the leader after round one, came-from-behind to win the tournament by one stroke over Tennessee. UAB, the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate host, finished third four strokes off the lead. ETSU recorded the lowest third round score to leap four spots into fourth place. Georgia State rounded out the top-5
The Volunteers will be in action next when they travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to participate in The Ridges Intercollegiate Oct. 15-16.

VOLS TAKE LEAD AT SHOAL CREEK INVITATIONAL AFTER TWO ROUNDS
Birmingham, Ala. - The Tennessee men's golf team surged past LSU Tuesday morning to take the lead with a scorecard of 285-285--570 after two rounds at the Shoal Creek Invitational.
Sophomore Jonathan Mount shot a 69 in the second round to go five-under-par with a 139 for the tournament. Mount is currently in third-place.
Chris Paisley has the next highest score for the Vols. Paisley shot a 73 in the second round and is now one-under-par through two rounds which places him in a tie for ninth-place in the individual standings. Phillip Pettitt shot a 71 in the second round an improvement of two strokes over his first round score and is now even-par in the tournament.
LSU, the leader after round one, is now in second place three shots behind UT. Another SEC rival Florida stands in third, one stroke behind LSU and 4 behind Tennessee. Tournament host UAB is in fourth after shooting a second-round low 281.
Matt Every of Florida and Cole Isban of Notre Dame share the lead with a six-under-par 138 through two rounds. UT's Jonathan Mount stands alone in third-place one stroke behind the leaders.
The third and final round is scheduled to be completed Tuesday.
