Tennessee Golf Finishes Second
Rick Lamb at Bank of Tennessee

Rick Lamb at Bank of Tennessee

Oct. 14, 2012

Senior Rick Lamb led the Vols to an impressive second place finish at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. Lamb played solid throughout the weekend, highlighted by a 5-under par (67) Friday. He rounded out the weekend with a 5-under par (211) leading the Tennessee team and finishing the tournament tied for fourth place.

The final day at Blackthorn Club at The Ridges saw the Volunteers lose their first place position, which they held throughout Friday and Saturday, to Missouri in the final holes of the last round. The Missouri team started the final day in third place, but stormed back to beat Tennessee by one stroke by shooting a 2-under par (268) final round. The #12 ranked Missouri Tigers finished the tournament at 7-under par with a total score of 857.

After rough starts in the Volunteers' first two tournaments, head coach Jim Kelson was pleased to see his team improving and playing at the top of the leaderboards.

The Bank of Tennnessee tournament really showcased the strong play of Tennessee's two seniors, Lamb and Jay Vandeventer. Lamb was a few strokes away from claiming the individual championship, while Vandeventer was the model of consistency posting scores of 71 (-1), 73 (+1), and 71 (-1). Vandeventer finished the tournament with a total score of 211 and a tie for eleventh place, alongside teammate Thomas Dunne.

The Vols are off for two weekends before returning to action at the Glifford Collegiate in San Martin, Calif., on Nov. 5.

Memphis' Grant Milner captured the individual championship by holding off Wake Forest's Evan Beck. Milner had an exceptional weekend at the Blackthorn Club, including a stretch on Saturday where he scored five consecutive birdies. Throughout the weekend, Milner never finished below par, shooting a 67 (-5), 67 (-5) and 72 (E).

Additionally, UNCW's Stefan Brewer aced the 228-yard par-3 sixteenth hole on Friday.
