Oct. 29, 2011

Danny Keddie capped the 2011 fall schedule with his best collegiate finish to guide Tennessee to a fifth-place showing Saturday at the Cabo Collegiate.

Keddie fired his best round of the season for the second straight day, shooting 68 to climb to a third-place result in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. Keddie finished the tournament shooting 71-70-68 for a 4-under-par total of 209. It also marked his fifth top-10 result in just 12 career collegiate events.

The top nine teams held their positioning over the course of Saturday's final round at Club Compestre Golf Course. Tennessee closed with its best score of the week, a 2-over-par 284 that left the Vols at 17-over 869.

Arkansas breezed to the team championship, finishing at 21-under-par 831 behind a 1-2 individual finish of Sebastian Cappelen (205) and Austin Cook (207). Southeastern Louisiana (857), St. Mary's (859) and San Francisco (865) rounded out the top four teams ahead of UT.

The Vols received a pair of even-par 71s from Garrick Porteous and Jay Vandeventer, with Darren Renwick adding 76. Rick Lamb closed with a 78 and Marshall Talkington, playing this week as an individual, ended on a strong note with 70.

Best Scoring Average
Keddie finished UT's fall portion of the schedule leading the team with a 72.75 scoring average and eight rounds of par or better out of 12 total rounds played. The sophomore from Lincoln, England, had two sixth-place finishes during his freshman campaign for his best previous results.

Porteous closed with 71 to equal his best round since the final day of the Carpet Capital Collegiate in early September. The senior finished in 18th place Saturday at 4-over-par 217. Vandeventer also shot 71 for his best effort since the Georgia tournament. Vandeventer tied for 29th place at 9-over 222.

Lamb carded a 78 to finish in a tie for 40th place at 13-over 226. Renwick tied for 43rd place after his 76, finishing at 14-over 227. Right behind those two was Talkington, who improved by 10 strokes over his Saturday effort and posted a 70 that was his best round since the Carpet Capital. Talkington finished in a tie for 47th place at 15-over-par 228.

Hole-by-hole scoring recaps were not available for this tournament.

Tennessee, which finished its four fall tournaments with a 26-20 overall record, now is idle until Feb. 13-14 at the San Diego Intercollegiate Classic.
