VOLS TIED FOR 10TH AFTER FIRST ROUND OF CARPET CAPITAL COLLEGIATE

The Tennessee men's golf team recorded a 300 in the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Friday to stand in a tie for tenth place with Georgia Southern and South Carolina.

Sophomore Jonathan Mount leads the way for Tennessee after recording a 74 to finish two strokes over par. Mount recorded his only birdie of the day on hole No. 15 and stands in a tie for 27th place.

Philip Pettitt and Ben Spickard are next for the Volunteers. Both recorded a three-over par 75 to finish in a tie for 38th place.

Tino Weiss is one stroke behind his teammates after turning in a first round scorecard of 76. Lloyd Campbell rounds out the Vol contingent with a six-over par 78.

Florida leads after one round with a six-under par 282. Georgia State is in second, two strokes behind the Gators. Duke is in third place, six strokes back.

Chris Kirk of Georgia has a one-stroke lead over three other players with a five-under par 67.

The Vols tee off at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
