ROCKY FACE, Ga. -- The University of Tennessee men's golf team fired a 315 during the second round of play at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club. The Vols enter Sunday's final round with a two-day total of 618, tying them for 15th.
Leading the way for the Vols are junior Lloyd Campbell and freshman Philip Pettitt with scores of 151, tying them for 29th. For the second straight round, Campbell and Pettitt led the Vol charges as each player turned in scores of 77 to go with scores of 74 from the first round.
The senior trio of Ross McGowan, David Skinns and John Scott Rattan round out the Vol scoring. McGowan has a scorecard of 78-79--157 to tie for 64th, while Skinns is tied for 71st with a 77-82--159 and Rattan in a tie for 84th with an 81-83--164.
Leading the tournament is No. 3 Georgia with a 290-297--587. Wake Forest, ranked No. 13 stands second with a 301-292--593, while top-ranked Georgia Tech (595), No. 4 New Mexico (597) and defending tournament champion Florida (600) round out the top five.
Other Golfweek Top 25 teams competing include No. 17 Duke (601) in sixth, No. 21 Clemson (602) in seventh, No. 5 Auburn (604) in ninth, No. 6 Texas Christian (607) in 10th, No. 13 Augusta State (612) in 13th, No. 24 Texas Tech (615) and No. 12 Tennessee (618) in 15th.
Leading the individual portion of the tournament is Vanderbilt's Luke List with a 73-69--142. Round one's leader, David Denham of Georgia, is one stroke back in second with a 69-74--143.
Tennessee returns to action Saturday with the second round of play.
