SAN MARTIN, Calif. --
Senior Rick Lamb made the most of Tennessee's trip to the west coast. The Volunteers' leader won the Gifford Collegiate at CordeValle by shooting a one-under par 71 on Wednesday.
Lamb played excellent golf throughout the three-day tournament in San Martin, Calif., finishing the tournament with a 6-under par 207. The highlight of Lamb's rounds came on Tuesday when he shot a 3-under par 68, which set him up for success leading into the final day of play.
"We are extremely proud and excited for Rick," Tennessee head coach Jim Kelson said. "He has been a great leader for this team. He has worked very hard on his game and it is great to see those efforts pay off. This was a big win for Rick and our program against a very strong field."
As a team, the Volunteers finished fourth with a 20-over par, shooting rounds of 355, 361, 369 for a total of 1085 in the six-count-format. With the completion of the Gifford Collegiate, Tennessee closes out its fall season. Tennessee's fall consisted of a fifth place finish (Windon Memorial), second place finish (Bank of Tennessee at Blackthorn), and two top-ten individual finishes.
Fifth ranked UCLA cruised to a team victory at the Gifford Collegiate by shooting a 3-under par 1062 for the tournament. In addition, UCLA had four individual golfers in the top-ten finishers.
It's the second career tournament victory for Lamb, who is a native of South Bend, Ind., and his first of this season. His previous victory came last year at the Yale Spring Open.
The Volunteers return to action in February when they travel to Ponte Vedra, Fla., for the Jacksonville Invitational.
