VOLS FINISH UP FALL SEASON WITH LOSS TO WAKE FOREST AT HOOTERS COLLEGIATE MATCH PLAY

Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. -- The Tennessee men's golf team completed its trip to the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Saturday by losing in the consolation bracket to Wake Forest.

Charlie Ford defeated Chad Wilcox of Wake Forest by one hole for Tennessee's only victory. Ford won two of his three head-to-head matches on the weekend.

Jonathan Mount came-from-behind to defeat the Demon Deacon's Webb Simpson on the 20th hole. Mount also won two of his three head-to-head matches this weekend with his only loss coming to Chris Kirk of Georgia who is ranked No.3 in Golfweek's individual ratings.

Sean Moore defeated UT's Ben Spickard at the No. 2 position. Kyle Reifers and Doug Manchester also contributed victories for the Demon Deacons, who are ranked No. 16 by Golfweek.

Earlier in the day, Tennessee fell to Georgia, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, in a resumption of a second round match that was suspended due to darkness Friday.

Pettitt defeated Kevin Kisner of Georgia by four holes to claim the Vols' only victory of the match. Pettitt had a five-hole lead midway through the match and still had a four-hole lead with three holes left to play when the match ended. Pettitt won both of his matches in the tournament.

 

 

Ford halved his match with Richard Scott. The England native overcame a one-hole deficit to take a one hole lead with three holes to play but could not hold the lead and eventually settled for the tie.

Chris Kirk defeated Mount by four holes at the No. 1 position. Kirk is ranked the No. 3 collegiate golf player by Golfweek. At the No. 2 position, Georgia's Brian Harman defeated Spickard by three holes. Harman is ranked No. 11 by Golfweek. Brendon Todd defeated Paisley at the No. 5 slot by one-hole.

The Volunteers return to action on Jan. 20 when they face the University of Oklahoma in The Challenger.
