Lamb looks to win his third consecutive tournament.
Feb. 23, 2013
Senior Rick Lamb, the No. 30th-ranked player in the nation and winner of two consecutive tournaments, leads the Tennessee men's golf team back to Ponte Vedra, Fla., for its second consecutive tournament in the Sunshine State.
The Volunteers dominated the SeaBest Invitational just two weeks ago in Ponte Vedra. Lamb stole the show as he ran away with the individual championship and led the Vols to their first tournament championship of the season.
Lamb and company will have a new challenge this week at the John Hayt Invitational. The three-day tournament kicks off Sunday, Feb. 24 and is hosted by the University of North Florida.
The tournament will consist of five-man teams with the top four scores of each round counting. Additionally, the Volunteers will have one golfer playing as an individual. The Tennessee lineup is: seniors Lamb and Jay Vandeventer, newcomer Thomas Dunne, and freshmen Oliver Goss, Michael Nagy, and Chad Merzbacher. The Volunteers' individual player will be Merzbacher.
"We are excited to get back to Florida and play at the Sawgrass Country Club," head coach Jim Kelson said. "The guys have been playing well and we look to continue to build off our last tournament victory".
Last year at the John Hayt Invitational, the Volunteer placed seventh with a 22-over par (882) and Vandeventer was the top Tennessee individual performer finishing tied for sixth with a one-under par (215). Tennessee's best finish at the John Hayt Invitational came in 2002 when they placed second.
The 2013 John Hayt Field includes: North Florida (host), UAB, Arkansas (#16), UCF, Coastal Carolina, Duke (#9), Florida (#7), Furman, Jacksonville, LSU (#12), Mercer, North Texas, Ole Miss, Tennessee (#26), and Tulsa.

The tournament will be played at the Sawgrass Country Club. The premier PGA Tour event was played on our East-West Course through 1981, when it moved to its nearby current site nearby at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) at Sawgrass.
Sawgrass Country Club continues the tradition of championship golf by hosting an annual NCAA Men's Division 1 Invitational, FSGA and USGA state and national events, and other select tournaments throughout the year. To visit the Sawgrass County Club Website: Click Here
