VOLS IN FOURTH AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT USC COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

The No. 15 Tennessee men's golf team sits in fourth place after two rounds at the USC Collegiate Invitational played Monday at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The Volunteers fired a team scorecard of 284-290--574.

Murfreesboro native Philip Pettitt paced the Vols with a total score of 5-under-par 137. He finished the day tied for third place after shooting a 4-under-par 67 in the first round followed by a 1-under-par 70 in the second. Pettitt's first round 67 bettered his previous season low round of 69.

Fellow junior Charlie Ford finished 2 over par and tied for 14th. Ford followed his first round 2-over-par 73 with an even-par second round 71.

Kingston native Jonathan Mount fired a scorecard of 70-77--147 to find himself tied for 35th going into the final round.

Senior Tino Weiss was next for Tennessee. Weiss improved his first-round 77 with a 72 in the second round to end the day tied for 46th.

Sophomore Chris Paisley rounded out the Volunteer lineup. Paisley carded a 74-77--151 to stand 9 over par and tied for 53rd.

Southern California holds a one stroke lead over the field, shooting a 291-277--568. Stanford is in second one stroke back, with UCLA two strokes back in third. Tennessee is 6 strokes back in fourth with California rounding out the top five.

Loyola Marymount's Brian Locke and Southern California's Jamie Lovemark are tied for first with total scores of 136. Three players, including Pettit, are one stroke back and tied for third.

The third and final round will be played Tuesday with tee times starting at 10:15 a.m. Eastern Time.
