KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee men's golf team will head to Eugene, Ore., for the 2014 NCAA Regional May 15-17. The NCAA made the announcement Monday morning on the Golf Channel.
Monday's selection marked Tennessee's 15th consecutive NCAA bid in 16 seasons under head coach Jim Kelson, extending the school record. In addition to the 15 consecutive regional bids, UT has advanced to the NCAA finals seven times under Kelson -- 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
The West Region is hosted by the University of Oregon at the Eugene Country Club with Stanford being awarded the top seed.
Founded in 1899, the Eugene Country Club is ranked in the top 100 courses in the US by Golf Digest, and in the top 100 Modern courses by Golfweek.
This year's West Regional field: 1. Stanford 2. Houston 3. Oklahoma 4. South Carolina 5. Baylor 6. Liberty 7. Oregon 8. TENNESSEE 9. Northern Florida 10. ETSU 11. Chattanooga 12. Wichita State 13. Northern Colorado
The low five teams at each regional site, plus the low individual not from those teams, will advance to the NCAA Championships conducted May 23-28, at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas (hosted by Wichita State).
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 15-17. There will be 13 teams and 10 individuals not on those teams competing at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams.
Tennessee captured the No. 8 seed in the Eugene region after a regular season that saw the Vols collect four top-5 tournament finishes, including back-to-back tournament championships in March.
