Wingardh named Freshman All-SEC



Tennessee freshman Robin Wingardh has been named to the 2008 SEC Men???s Golf All-Freshman Team announced Thursday by the conference office.

A native of Morarp, Sweden, Wingardh has competed in every tournament for the Volunteers this season and has been an important spot in the lineup. The freshman currently has a 73.07 scoring average along with nine rounds of par-or-better and two top-10 finishes. He has also finished in the top-25 in six tournaments this season.

His first top-10 finish was a tie for fifth place at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate Nov. 5-7, where he finished with a career-low 54-hole total of 202. His 54-hole total of 202 is the third lowest 54-hole score in UT history. He also set a career low round with a 9-under-par 63 in the second round. The fifth place finish is his best at Tennessee.

The second top-10 finish came at the PING/Arizona Intercollegiate Jan. 28-29, were he finished tied for 10th with a total score of 210.

Joining Wingardh on the All-Freshman Team were Sam Chavez (Arkansas), Harris English (Georgia), Russell Henley (Georgia), Andrew Loupe (LSU), John Peterson (LSU), Clayton Rotz (LSU) and Jonathan Randolph (Ole Miss).
