KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee junior Lorenzo Scalise will compete as an amateur in the European Tour's Rocco Forte Open from May 18-21 at Verdura Golf Club in Agrigento, Sicily, Italy.
Scalise will tee off on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. GMT/10:15 a.m. ET. He is paired with Reinier Saxton and Jaco Ahlers. The par 71 Championship Course at Verdura Golf Club is 7,217 yards.
Scalise, who is from Milan, Italy, enjoyed a strong 2016-17 season. Competing in all 10 events, Scalise led the Vols with a 72.17 round average (minimum six rounds), 19 rounds of par or better, three top 10 finishes and six top 25 finishes. He surged in late rounds this year with a 70.70 average over his final 18 holes. Scalise shot par or better in eight of his 10 third rounds this year.
Scalise tied for fifth with a 10-under 206 in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, held Oct. 14-16 at Blackthorn Club at the Ridges in Jonesborough, Tennessee. His best showing of the spring was at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, held March 19-21 in Williamsburg, Virginia, when he tied for sixth at 2-over 212. Scalise was UT's top golfer at last month's SEC Championship, tying for 18th at 2-over 212.
Scalise has competed overseas as an amateur over the past two years. He missed the 2016 Italian Open cut by just one stroke after shooting 2-under (70-72--142). In 2015, he tied for fourth in the Frassanelle Open (Alps Tour) at 5-under. He tied for 11th in the 2015 Italian Open, shooting 16-under.
