COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Tennessee's Hunter Wolcott is tied for 13th place following Wednesday's first round of the 88th Southeastern Amateur at the Country Club of Columbus.
The 72-hole event runs from Wednesday through Saturday. Following Friday's third round, the field will be cut to the lowest 60 and ties and anyone within 10 shots of the lead after 54 holes.
Wolcott shot 1-under 69 in the first round and sits six strokes back of the leader, James Clark (7-under). Starting on the first tee, Wolcott enjoyed a fast start with birdies on the first, second and fourth holes. On Thursday, he will start his second round at 10 a.m. ET from the first tee. The Burns, Tennessee, native is paired with Henry Westmoreland of Wacissa, Florida, and Will Chandler of Atlanta, Georgia.
On June 5, Wolcott and fellow Vol Nolan Ray qualified for the 111th Southern Amateur Championship, which runs July 19-22 at Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
As a freshman in 2016-17, Wolcott competed in six tournaments. Over 18 rounds, he posted a 73.55 round average with one top 25 finish, tying for 13th at 2-over in the East Bay Deli Classic on Nov. 1.
