Rising University of Tennessee senior Philip Pettitt, who shot a 12-over-par 82 on the second day of the 2007 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., failed to make the cut for third day of action with a two-day total of 163.
Pettitt, who finished tied for 144th, opened the day with a par on hole No. 1 and was a respectable three over after six holes before carding bogies on two of the last three on the front nine for a five-over 40.
After firing a 44 on the back nine Thursday leading to his total of 81, Pettitt improved his tally by two strokes this time around. He posted his only birdie of the day on the par four No. 14.
For the tournament, Pettitt had three birdies and parred 11 holes. He had seven holes of par or better in day two compared with six in day one.
Angel Cabrera leads the field with an even par two-day total of 140 as the scores soared on the second day of action.
