Several current and future Tennessee men's golfers have been in action across the world and boast impressive performances this summer.
Incoming freshman Chad Merzbacher won the 2012 American High School Championship at St. Andrews Links in Scotland. The Dublin, Ohio native shot a 10-under 206 score (68-65-73) to win at The Home of Golf. Merzbacher also qualified for the US Amateur Championship, shooting a 1-under 143, on July 16 at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W. Va. The event takes places Aug. 13-19 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.
Rising junior Brandon Rodgers birdied 10 holes to finish with a 7-under par 137 score (69-68) and win the stroke-play portion of the 2012 Tennessee Match Play Championship at Spring Creek Ranch in Collierville. The Farragut native tied for fifteenth at the Greystone Invitational earlier this summer.
Jackson-native Marshall Talkington finished fifth at the 45th Annual Spirit of America Championship at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Al. The rising junior shot a 3-under par 68 on the final 18 holes to finish fifth at 1-under 283 (75-70-70-68).
Rick Lamb tied for 15th at the prestigious Players Amateur at the South Course at Berkeley Hall Club in Bluffton, S.C. The senior from South Bend, Ind., shot a 1-under 215 score (73-71-71).
UT signee Oliver Goss was also present at the Players. The Perth, Australia native finished tied for 51st at 8-over par.
Incoming-freshman Grant Daugherty tied for 19th at the 95th Western Junior Championship at the Country Club of Florida in The Village of Golf, Fla. The Alcoa native shot a 2-over 290 score (73-72-71-74). Daugherty also tied for 42nd at 7-over 220 (74-71-75) at the North & South Amateur at Pinehurst in Pinehurst, N.C.
Sophomore-transfer Thomas Dunne tied for 17th at the 2012 Ohio Amateur Championship with a 4-over 292 score (69-75-75-73). The Columbus, Ohio native finished tied for 22nd at the 2012 Ohio Open Championship Wednesday with a 2-under 214 score (72-71-71).
