Tennessee Head Men's Golf Coach Jim Kelson announced the Volunteers' 2006-07 schedule this week. The Big Orange will participate in four events this fall followed by seven events in the spring leading up to the NCAA Championships.
The Vol golfers open their season with the Carpet Capital Collegiate Sept. 15-17. The tournament will be held at the Farm in Dalton, Ga., for the 18th annual running of this event. Next up for UT will be the Shoal Creek Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., Sept. 25-26. In 2005, the Volunteers finished second overall with Kingston native Jonathan Mount tying for the individual championship. The Big Orange will then head to Johnson City, Tenn., for The Ridges Intercollegiate Oct 14-15. The Vols wrap up the fall with a trip to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the Isleworth Intercollegiate.
The first stop for the Volunteers in the spring will be a trip to Tucson, Ariz., for the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate. Scheduled Jan. 29-30 the tournament will be held at Arizona National Golf Club. Two weeks later the Vols will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate before heading out west to Westlake Village, Calif., for the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational March 5-6.
The Big Orange will spend the final two weeks of the regular season in Georgia. The Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational is up first for the Vols, March 17-18 at Forest Heights C.C. The Volunteers will then head north to Augusta for the Administaff Augusta State Invitational. Held at Champions Retreat Golf Club, this event will be Tennessee's final tune up before the SEC championships.
The SEC championships will be held April 20-22 in Sea Island, Ga. Last season the Volunteers finished ninth in the event.
The NCAA East Regionals will be held May 17-19 in Atlanta, Ga., at The Golf Club of Georgia. The NCAA finals are scheduled to run from May 30 through June 2 in Williamsburg, Va., at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.
