Nov. 1, 2012
For the month of November, the University of Tennessee has selected freshman men's golfer and Dublin, Ohio native Chad Merzbacher as its student of the month.
Each month the Thornton Athletics Student Life Center hosts the Thornton Center Academic Spotlight in recognition of the student-athletes who have shown a commitment to classroom success. The sport counselors nominate one student-athlete from each team and a committee selects the honorees. Nominees are expected to do all of the things that make classroom success a greater possibility: attend class; meet tutor, mentor, study hall, requirements/objectives; arrive promptly and prepared for every meeting and/or class; and earn acceptable grades on assignments and/or tests. Those selected for this honor will keep the title for a month before passing it along to the next worthy recipient.
Kathryn Boyer, a freshman track and field star from Champaign, Ill., was the female recipient of November's student-athlete of the month award.
