MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- When thinking of taking talents to South Beach, does the name Chad Merzbacher come to mind? It should.
The sophomore from Dublin, Ohio is tied for fifth place after three rounds at the South Beach International Amateur Golf Championship. Heading into Sunday's final round, Merzbacher sits at even par, four strokes back of the leader.
Merbacher was able to stay in contention for the championship by totaling a 54-hole total of 70-72-70--212 (E). His first and third round 70s (-1) were impressive considering the course and conditions.
"I feel like I'm really moving in the right direction with my game," Merzbacher said. "There are definitely shots I left out there but that goes the same for everyone. The conditions are tough and I really like to take advantage of that. I really like the golf course and feel comfortable on it. I am excited for tomorrow and can't wait to compete in the last round."
The young men have had the perfect mix of South Beach fun and competitive golf at the Miami Beach Golf Club's four-day championship (Dec. 19-22). The six Volunteers will head back to Tennessee on Sunday.
