2001-02 -- Earned two All-America honors for the 800 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay at the NCAA Championships...Finished 30th in the nation in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.17...Placed 10th at the SEC Championships in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.30 and 14th in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:27.81...In a dual-meet against Florida he took top honors in the 200 freestyle, while against LSU and Kentucky he won the 100 freestyle.
2000-01 -- At the
SEC Extravaganza, Simpson placed second overall in the 200 free. At the Princeton
Invitational, he was a multiple event winner turning in times of (138.1) in
the 200 free, 4:24.47 in the 500 free and 1:47.92 in the 100 back. At the At
the Dallas Morning News Invitational, he contributed to the winning 200 freestyle
relay (1:21.48),...At the dual meet vs. Florida he posted a winning time of
1:39.26 in the 200 free... At the NCAA championships, Simpson swam an individual
best in the 200 free with a time of 1:37.28... 1999-2000 -- Kicked
off collegiate career with a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:40.64) and
a fourth-place finish in the 200 back (1:50.96) versus Virginia ...Finished
second in the 200 free (1:39.57) and third in the 500 free (4:33.74) in dual-meet
with Kentucky...At the Georgia Invitational, was third in the 400-meter free
with a time of 3:57.23 and fifth in the 200-meter free with a time of 1:51.71...Scored
a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyles against Texas with
times of 1:40.09 and 4:33.23, respectively...Won the 200 free against Florida
with a time of 1:39.68 and finished fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:33.43
and led off the second-place 400 free relay...At the SEC Championships, finished
10th in the 200 free (1:37.59), 10th in the 500 free (4:23.84) and 10th in the
200 back (1:47.26)...At the NCAA Championships, helped the Vols’ 800-meter
free relay to a 13th-place time of 7:18.30... Prior to UT -- Club
team placed first at the Southeastern Long Course Championships four seasons
in a row and finished eighth at the 1998 Junior Nationals in 1998...Top times
include a 1:38.45 in the 200 free, a 4:25.08 in the 500 free, a 45.51 in the
100 free and a 1:48.00 in the 200 back...Won high school state title in the
200 free...Earned All-America honors in the 200 and 500 free...Also earned Academic
All-America honors...Junior National Champion in the 1000 free and a Senior
