The No. 15 Tennessee men's swimming team was defeated Saturday in Gainesville, Fla., 143-93 by the No. 2 Florida Gators at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium.

"The kids raced and competed well, and I am very pleased," UT head coach John Trembley said. "We never like going into Gainesville and coming away with a loss. We were flat in a couple of areas and have much preparation still to do for the SEC and NCAA championships."

Casey Dauw continues to improve since returning from injury. Dauw finished first in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:51.62, edging Nick Borreca of Florida in 1:51.82.

"Casey Dauw is well on the road to recovery as was evident with his win in the 200 I.M.," Trembley said.

Dauw also finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:51.74. Adam Sioui won the event in 1:50.31 for the Gators.

Sophomore Jevon Tarantino picked up a win on the 1-meter board with 325.57 points. Tarantino added a third-place finish on the 3-meter board with 319.27. Zach Wilcox of Florida won the event with 360.45.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Josh Fulton, Kiel Huston, Andrew Engle and Octavio Alesi finished first in 1:29.93. The time set a season best for the Vols.

"Octavio Alesi had a phenomenal anchor leg for a season-best time," Trembley added.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Alesi, Engle, Fulton and Gustafson brought home the second relay win of the day for the Vols in 1:23.95.

Jason Thomas and Gustafson finished 3-4 in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:39.97 and 1:40.07. Brian Hartley finished first for Florida in 1:38.50.

Freshman Michael Wolfe was the runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:48.01. Wolfe's time was good for a career-best and a Volunteer team best. Andrew Greener finished first for the Gators in 1:47.85.

"Michael Wolfe swam a lifetime best 200 backstoke, and his teammates were very excited to see that," Trembley said.

Alesi finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.99. Engle followed closely in fourth in 21.28. Freshman Daniel Penniman for Florida finished first in 20.73.

The Vols will return to Gainesville Feb. 11-13 for the SEC Diving Championships and Feb. 16-19 for the SEC Swimming Championships.
