Tennessee concluded the SEC Diving Championships Sunday with a pair of top-8 finishes on the platform.
Ryan Rincon and Michael Muscari qualified for finals as they placed 6th and 7th, respectively, in the preliminaries. The pair followed the performance with 7th and 8th place finishes in the finals. Rincon led with 282.50 points and Muscari boasted 280.05 points. Freshman Chris Davis placed 17th. The Dive Vols contributed 23 team-points on the day.
"It was a great way to cap off our mixed fortunes for the week, certainly with all of Rincon's frustrations this meet," UT diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "I am very pleased with him making it back to the finals as he restored some lost-confidence. As a result, this will be good preparation for NCAA qualifying. Muscari was certainly the surprise on the day because he wasn't expected to make finals. He fought and scrapped today just like he did all week. This really provided great experience for the freshman. The only disappointment on the day is that Davis came 1.5 points short of contributing to the team effort in points."
The Vols begin the SEC Swim Championships Wednesday at noon. The Auburn Tigers head into the swimming portion of the contest, leading with 128 points. The Vols trail in 5th place with 36 points.
