The 12th-ranked Tennessee men's swimming and diving team defeated ACC regular season co-champions North Carolina State Wolfpack, 96.5-91.5, Sunday at the UT Student Aquatic Center.

"We had some nice swims for senior day but we still have some work ahead of us," UT head coach John Trembley said. "It is tough swimming on a Sunday morning but we had great parent support to push us along."

Sophomore sprinter Octavio Alesi won the 50 free in 20.41. Alesi beat a tough Wolfpack sprinting contingent that includes the 2005 World University Games gold medal winner in the 50 free, Cullen Jones. Senior Tyler Gustafson finished second in the 50 free in 21.00.

Alesi also led the winning 300-yard butterfly relay that defeated a Jones anchored North Carolina State squad.

Gustafson was not finished for the day. He won the 100 free in 45.44. Freshman Nolan Morrell from Bend, Ore., finished second in 46.49.

Senior Casey Dauw also stood out on senior day. Dauw won the 300-yard individual medley in 2:54.28. He also anchored the 500 crescendo relay which finished with the top time of 3:58.64. Freshman Peter Baer finished second in the 300 I.M. in 3:00.43.

Sophomore Michael Wolfe won the 400 free in 3:37.76. Wolfe also anchored the first-place 300 fly relay team.

Senior Kiel Huston also displayed a strong performance in his last dual-meet as a Vol. Huston led the top-finishing 300 breaststroke relay.

Ryan Rincon led the Vol divers with the top mark of 326.02 points on the 3-meter board. Rincon also finished second on the 1-meter board with 296.10. Senior John Venditti finished third on 1-meter with 292.58.

"I was pleased with the performance of the divers today," UT diving coach Dave Parrington said. "It was great to see John (Venditti) dive well in his final dual meet. He just came up a little short of making his qualifying scores and looks to obtain them at the SEC championships."
