Senior Ricky Henahan recorded his best backstroke time of the year while helping a relay team to its fastest performance Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet in Athens, Ga.
Henahan swam the 100-yard backstroke in under 47 seconds for the first time this season, touching the wall in 46.99 to win the final heat.
The Vols' 200 medley relay team of Henahan, Renato Prono, Oystein Hetland and Ed Walsh just missed the NCAA A-Cut time by half a second. The team finished in 1:25.97, a B-But time, and the fastest by any school Saturday.
Freshman Tristan Slater recorded an NCAA B-Cut time in the 400 individual medley in 3:48.92, but it a little slower than his SEC Championships time of 3:48.51.
Freshman Ben Scheffer was unable to record an NCAA standard time in the 200 IM, swimming a 1:53.10 in the preliminaries.
The meet continues Sunday as swimmers attempt to record qualifying times for next month's NCAA Championships.
