VOL DUO COMPETES ON ONE-METER AT ZONE DIVING
John Venditti

John Venditti

March 11, 2006

Tennessee divers Ryan Rincon and John Venditti finished 30th and 31st on the 1-meter springboard Saturday in Lexington, Ky., at the NCAA Zone B diving qualifier.

Rincon finished 30th with 228.60, narrowly edging Venditti who finished 31st with 228.40. The top-four divers were all from the Southeastern Conference, led by Steve Segerlin of Auburn with 348.20.

Both divers will need strong scores Sunday on the platform to have a shot at qualifying for the NCAA championships.

Thirteen qualifying spots will be filled from Zone B, the most of any of the five zones. Qualifying numbers are determined based on the previous results from the NCAA championships.

A top five on either springboard or a top three on the platform guarantees a spot at the NCAA championships. Divers earning an automatic spot on any board also qualify on other boards if they compete in those events at the zone qualifier.

Competition concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern time with the platform competition.
